Hey gang. Remember when I used to do things like update my comics? Me neither.

Pretty much came back from Christmas and hit the ground running. The wedding’s only a few months away now, so there’s a giant pile of “HOLY SHIT, WE NEED TO GET THIS DONE!” to do. Not to mention the cards I have to do for The Avengers movie (which got off to a late start due to a printing delay, so it’s crunch time on that) and Marvel Beginnings. The picture above is pretty much where I spend most of my time these days: chained to the table in my office/cave, spending way too long on each card because I’m making myself crazy (and because I would like to keep getting work doing this) and barely keeping ahead of deadlines for contract work. Sorry for the blurry bits, but I’m not allowed to show any of the cards I’ve done until they’re approved by Marvel…so I just played it safe and assumed that went for the printed sides of them as well.

This whole, “Oh, right. Paid work is necessary to keep the lights on and the beer cold” thing has left me almost no time for my webcomics. I’ll be honest guys, updates on my end are going to be pretty sporadic for a while. It’ll easily be February before I’m able to update The Path or Bastard Who any more than once a week.

BUT, there are still plenty of comics to read here at Old Dying Kitty! William Feist and Phineus: Magician for Hire are still updating on their regular schedules, so get to readin’! Plus a NEW title, “Cutters Field” by Chris Waterman, will be joining the ODK family VERY soon! Keep an eye out!

So, I got the final word yesterday: I’ll be doing sketch cards for Upper Deck’s The Avengers movie line of trading cards. I am understandably bat-shit crazy excited over this, as The Avengers have been my favorite super-team my whole life. Contract and stuff will be here tomorrow and I’ve been given the go ahead to run through the streets announcing that I’m a part of it. This is my second Avengers-related gig, as I also did a cover for the Hero Initiative’s New Avengers 100 Project (which turned out to be a real learning experience on psyching myself out). My cover is in the book published by Marvel and I proudly have two copies on my bookshelf.

I also found out that I’ll be doing a second set of sketch cards for another project through Upper Deck: Marvel Beginnings 2.

This, honestly, couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been so busy with freelance and contract work that I’ve had to neglect my own comics, and I’ve been in a bit of a slump creatively as a result. This is going to be one big kick in the pants to get me motivated again. I’m already practicing drawing the stars of the movie so I can really knock these cards out of the park.

24-Hour Comics Day is an event held around the world which challenges writers and artists to create a full 24-page comic in 24 consecutive hours. Thousands of artists take the 24-Hour Comics Day Challenge every year!

Mike at Pulp Fiction has been gracious enough to offer up his shop AGAIN for a 24hr Comic Book Day event (he clearly didn’t learn his lesson last time)! Last year’s event went pretty well, and we’re hoping for a similar turn-out this year despite the late start! Like last year, we’ll go from noon-to-noon and see how many of us can finish a complete 24pg comic in the allotted time!

Like last year, we’ll be linked up via webcam/Skype with the guys over at the Toonseum in Pittsburgh, and we’ll have a public “hangout” set up through Google+ for everyone to check in and chat while we artists try to stay awake.
